Peter is the founding and Senior Partner of BKDI Architects, having established the practice in 1978, with the three tenets of Creativity, Capability, and Commitment as fundamental principles driving the ongoing work of the firm. Over the years, he has been focused on ‘City-Building’ – having served as a member of the Calgary Planning Commission, and the Calgary Development Appeal Board, as well as authoring a bi-weekly newspaper column on urban design and architecture for a period of seven years. Peter has been significantly involved in a great many aspects of community building as well – as a Governor of the University of Toronto, Senator of the University of Calgary, Vice Chair of the Calgary District Hospital Board, amongst many other community based organizations. He is currently a Board Member of the National Capital Commission, as well as the NCC Advisory Committee on Design, Planning and Realty.
Peter is recognized as an accomplished, award wining architect, balanced with entrepreneurial savvy and business achievement – and balanced again with a range of involvements and great relationships that define our gentleman cowboy. He competes in Team Cattle Penning, and is an avid supporter of the Calgary Stampede. In his free time, Peter plays polo, rides a hog, and sails the open seas. His favourite colour is blue, his favourite artists are Matisse and Motherwell, he loves Opera and Mozart, and he listens to Matt Masters in his car.
