Near the end of last week, the Interiors and Graphics Departments headed out of the office for a get-together lunch. A lot of the time our heads are down, working hard and the people we interact with on a daily basis are those working on the same project as us. As a result, it’s not always the case that everyone in the department gets a regular chance to interact with one another. It’s nice to just get out and be together outside of the office and it provides an opportunity to spark a conversation about the industry: what’s new, what other designers are doing, what we’re doing and how we’re similar or different from other firms. We always try to consider the design of the venue that we choose – this provides an easy conversation starter, encouraging discussion about the design of the space, finishes, details, and so on. Of course, we talk about non-work related things too. It’s important to know the people we work with – knowing who someone is as a person, what they like, what they don’t like, what they think is good design, helps us to better understand who they are in the work environment. Last week’s lunch was a great success!
